Autograph and photo seeking Lobo Fans wait to meet their favorite players.
On Monday, October 29th the New Mexico Men’s Basketball team held an open practice at Laguna-Acoma High School gymnasium. Members of the Pueblo of Laguna were invited to come out to the practice and get an up-close and personal look at the 2012-13 squad. Fans were given a rare opportunity to witness a standard men’s practice from stretching to game play on their home turf in Casa Blanca. Head coach Steve Alford did not go easy on the boys as they ran drills and worked on offense and defense. Onlookers were able to cheer on the team as they executed their drills and showed off with a few slam dunks.
When the practice was over, the team and coaches stayed to sign au¬tographs and take pictures with Lobo fans. Generations young and old were excited to get their Lobo memorabilia signed and snap pictures with some of their favorite future NBA hopefuls. Even LAHS principal, Tom Trujillo was caught in a few pictures with his favorite players.
Route 66 Casino Hotel is the exclusive casino sponsor of Lobo Sports and as an advocate for academics and athletics it is extremely important to bring events like this to the Pueblo of Laguna community. Organized by Mary Cheresposy, Tribal Programs Manager, the event was a great success and an exciting preview into the 2012-13 basketball season.
The Lobo basketball season officially kicked off with a victory against Davidson on Monday, November 12th. The Lobo Men’s Basketball home opener was televised live on ESPN. United We Rage, Howl Rais¬ers, and Lobo Spirit teamed up with Envy Nightlife to bring HOWL GLOW, the official tip-off tailgate party before the big game. Fans showed there Lobo spirit by wearing there red gear and creating a “red out,” in the PIT. Sports fans from all over the globe were witness to the passion and ferocity of the Lobonation celebration.
